The original part of the Inn was built as
a manse for the Free Church of Scotland in the 19th century, a
few years after man-made lochs were constructed around 1847 to
provide water supplies for Dundee. The Inn is located immediately
in front of one of those lochs which are in the Monikie Country
Park, popular for fishing, water-sports and nature walks.
When
we were improving the building we found certain items, one of
which was an extract from Nelson's geography primer for the younger
pupil - the subject is British America (what we call Canada!)
and the book was owned by John McIntyre, son of the first vicar,
in 1862.
The
building is also said to be haunted! We have yet to see something
physical happen but there certainly have been a few occurrences
which could do with further explanation! We would love to hear
from anyone with any information or experiences from the past!
